Whether writing\u00a0 a novel, news article or editiorial piece, as a writer you regularly need to “curate” content for future reference. Writers curate curate content, which is the process of gathering relevant ideas and content about a topic, and storing them for future use. In the process of writing you may need to quote a source or simply refer back to it when checking the accuracy of facts.<\/p>\n

A great way to expedite and automate the curation task is to create a daily (or whatever frequency you choose) digest of reference material. Feedly<\/a> in conjunction with Google Alerts, can do this. First you need to set up a Google Alert.<\/p>\n

Google Alert Setup<\/h2>\n

  1. \u00a0If you do not already have one, create an account at Google.com.<\/li>\n
  2. Sign in at g<\/a>oogle.com\/alerts<\/a> with your new or existing account.<\/li>\n
  3. \u00a0Create a new alert<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \"create<\/a>Enter the term that you would like to receive notifications for when they\u2019re mentioned across the internet.<\/p>\n

    Next\u00a0change the \u2018Delivery to\u2019 field, to \u2018Feed\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Adjust the other fields to suit you, then click \u2018Create alert\u2019.<\/p>\n

    4. Click the \u2018Feed\u2019 link on the new alert and copy the link.<\/p>\n

    5. Now go to Feedly<\/a>. Create an account if you have not already.<\/p>\n

    Logging in will put you on the page shown below.<\/p>\n

    6. In the search box, paste the link you copied in Step 4 above.<\/p>\n
